The Power of Underwear

Every day should be a good underwear day.

It’s your foundation- the first thing you put on in the morning and the last thing you take off at night, and here at LoveRose we believe in the power of beautiful lingerie. This month we are delving a little deeper into how important lingerie is to our mood, our self-esteem, and our identity.

Going through breast cancer surgeries can really affect the way you feel about yourself and your sense of identity. Whilst surgery is often not a choice, the clothes we choose to wear are. Lingerie is our “most intimate items of clothing.” -Carolyn Mair. We believe buying lingerie is all about giving a gift to yourself, it’s your private armour, and something that only you (or whoever may be lucky enough to) see and enjoy. Although there are many avenues through which we regain our sense of self, there’s no denying how crucial lingerie can be in changing or defining your sense of identity.

“It takes time and effort to buy and put on a nicer set of lingerie, so treating yourself affirms your self-worth.” ... “You’re showing yourself that you’re worth the time and effort.” - Danielle Forshee, psychologist

Taking a considerate moment for yourself and choosing beautiful lingerie is an amazing form of self-care. The quote above is from an article we loved by the Huffington Post called “Why Wearing Nice Underwear Can Be Good for Your Mental Health” which reminded us of the many, many reasons that we treat ourselves to lingerie and feel great while wearing it. The private nature of lingerie gives us an opportunity to express or experiment with our personal identity without judgement from others and that freedom can be therapeutic. The article also includes quotes from the incredible psychologist Carolyn Mair who we are lucky enough to be interviewing on our LoveRose Talks series this month, she reminds us that lingerie can boost our self-esteem which in turn can encourage confidence.

“Wearing nice quality underwear or lingerie sets boost our confidence and self-esteem, even if no one sees it,” – Carolyn Mair, psychologist

LoveRose was born because we fully understand the role beautiful lingerie plays in empowering yourself after life changing surgeries and how crucial it can be in your recovery. Our lingerie has been thoughtfully designed by women who have been through breast cancer surgeries to help boost your mood and make you feel fabulous. Your body may have changed, but your choice in beautiful underwear shouldn’t have to! For so many of our women, their lingerie is not only an important confidence boost but, as one of our incredible LoveRose ladies pointed out- if you are wearing a prosthesis, it literally forms a part of your body every morning! If that’s not important- we don’t know what is.

We have spent time and care designing our collections with our women in mind. Although we have the occasional black bra in our underwear drawer and LoveRose collection, We. Love. Colour. The beautiful colours that you can wear our lingerie in are designed to bring a private boost to your day, no matter what you wear on top.

We hope your LoveRose pieces encourage you to take some time for yourself, slow down every morning (even for a moment), open your underwear drawer and feel joyful, empowered, and cared for.
